AW Taylor Industrial Coal (the original company) was founded in 1936 promoting Canterbury coal, and was the first coal merchant to offer blends of coal sourced from private coal mines on the West Coast.
Today, Tailored Energy Solutions supplies premium quality, efficient energy products for raw resource processing such as milk, meat and wool along with energy supply for industrial heating of schools, hospitals and horticulture. Our team of energy experts and qualified combustion engineers offer a combined total of over 80 years’ experience working within the energy industry.
We specialise in aligning individual customer’s energy demands with fuel types: coal, wood pellets, or biofuels - tailoring our products to suit the requirements of specific sites. Our New Zealand and overseas supplier partners produce premium graded energy products which we source to supply direct to our discerning customers.
Our services include the total package of sourcing and supplying the correct fuel for your requirements and site Consents, Boiler Consultancy and conversion (coal to alternative fuels) assistance, and Emissions Trading Scheme management and assistance.

TSS Earnslaw
The grand old TSS Earnslaw, which has earned the affectionate nickname of the ‘Lady of the Lake’, is a favourite amongst the people of Queenstown. Since 1912, the vessel has been sending goods to inaccessible settlements and carrying passengers on the lovely Lake Wakatipu.
Kingston Flyer
The Kingston Flyer was introduced in the late 1890s as New Zealand recovered from the Long Depression of the 1880s. On September the 18th 2022, the Kingston Flyer held their Grand Opening Ceremony and celebrated the return of commercially run public train rides from Kingston to Fairlight.
Steam Tug Lyttelton
Built in Scotland in 1906, following a 14 week voyage it arrived in Lyttelton in 1907.
From November through to April the tug “Lyttelton” is now available for charter trips. Trips from one hour and up to a full day of eight hours can be arranged.
